Competence for the future –different perspectives

The National Library of Sweden – Expert Committee on Skills Management and Planning cooperates on competence issues within the Swedish libraries. The purpose is to have an influence on as well as make libraries aware of the importance of competence development and identify current and future competence need.

In the evolving library world and the changing information arena, competence issues needs to get a larger impact on different perspectives of the library operations. The development of traditional library work and new demands make us all aware of the competence we have as well as need to develop. How do we make this a strategically important issue? Which methods & tools do we use? Is it the wish of the individual or the need of the organization that direct our competence efforts? How can we increase the generic competence in our specialist work? These are some of the questions we will address in our presentation.
