My aims and ambitions for the IFLA Governing Board
- IFLA:s role and goals should be made clear
- IFLA should direct its efforts through the goals set out by the organisation
- IFLA should pursue a leading and dynamic role through affirmative lobbying efforts to influence international library issues and strive for a higher rate of visibility
- IFLA needs a fully functional administration to act in a vigorous and supportive capacity regarding matters of financial management and activities pursued by the organisation
- IFLA should intensify its networking with other library organisations and assume a role as co-ordinator
- IFLA:s role as disseminator of information should be utilized to the fullest
- IFLA should work on behalf of democracy, freedom of speech and global co-operation to improve the library community in all parts of the world

Gunnar Sahlin – Curriculum Vitae

In 2003 I was appointed as the National Librarian of Sweden and Director of the Royal Library – the National Library of Sweden. In 1989 I received my doctorate in Literature from the University of Stockholm. Aside from the above my background may be summarised as follows:

Librarianship
- Director of Stockholm University Library (1996-2003)
- First Librarian and Head of Department at Stockholm University Library and Uppsala University Library (1989-1994)

Research and teaching
- Lecturer and postgraduate researcher at the Department of History of Literature, Stockholm University (1980-1989)
- Lecturer at the Information and Library Science course at Uppsala University during its introductory year (1995)
- Tutorial responsibility of writing assignments and seminars at Uppsala University and the University College of Borås
- Expert adviser and commission work at several seats of learning
- Member of the committee, temporary director and inquirer with the Institute of Latin American Studies at Stockholm University

Committee assignments
- Vice Chairman of the Swedish School of Library and Information Science at the University College of Borås (2003-)
- Swedish National Archive of recorded Sound and Moving Images (SLBA) committee member (2003-)
- University of Gotland committee member
- Member of the committee and Vice Chairman for the Swedish Library Association (1996-2003) and therefore a member of the committee for Bibliotekstjänst AB which is a part of BTJ Info Data AB
- Municipal commissioner with various committee assignments for the municipal authorities and county councils (1987-1998)
- At present I hold appointments and assignments in several foundations, associations and companies

- Författarrollens förändring och det litterära systemet 1770-1795 (diss. 1989)
- Miranda i Sverige / en Suecia 1787 (1990)
- Tryck, databaser och Internet. Bibliografiska sökvägar för litteraturvetare (2001), in collaboration with Kerstin Dahlbäck and Henrik ÅslundApart from the above mentioned books, I have published several articles, reviews and web-based lectures concerning the history of literature and issues regarding librarianship. In addition I have delivered numerous lectures and chaired seminars on both a national and international level.
